Tickets have only been on sale a few hours but we’re already seeing (predictably) great interest in the two cello concerts. Rolf Gjelsten of the New Zealand String Quartet has been encouraging our artistic directors to have a mini festival for many years and now his dreams have come true.
He has curated two exciting concerts that feature only cello – but lots of them! From the meditative Pachelbel Canon to the meltdown of Rossini’s William Tell Overture we will be in for a memorable day of cello mania!
There will be a welcome intruder at one point though when soprano Jenny Wollerman takes to the stage to sing the delightful Villa Lobos Bachianas Brasilieras number 5.
